A primeira Crónica Portuguesa

Abstract

The recent work of F. Moreira, proposes a different date for the elaboration of the ‘Primeira Crónica Portuguesa’, which originates the 'IV Crónica Breve de Santa Cruz de Coimbra'. Based on the date suggested by Inéz Fernandez Ordoñez for the ‘Crónica de los Veinte Reyes’, he finds enough argument to refuse the conventional date of 1340, and establishes it as being much previous, 1282 /4. F. Moreira seeks to demonstrate some textual unity and what it testifies in serving the royal ideology. Considering this arguments as being important, we defend however a mixture origin for the narratives that precede it and the need of a sociological context. The chronicle has a reduced ideological interest compared with the Spanish court historiography.
